Disruptive Technology
With the emergence of military operations in urban terrains (MOUT), weapons designers have begun to seek methods for adjusting or varying the yield of munitions in order to achieve precise matching of the weapon's effect to the target's characteristics. The new properties of energetic materials with sub-100 nanometer (nm) dimensions, referred to as nanoenergetics, have characteristics that contribute to increased performance in numerous energetic applications such as explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics and advanced reactive materials. EMPI has found its novel new materials to have broad applications for the warfighter with the potential for major payoffs in weapons systems.
